An Afrikaans speaking person living in South Africa and Namibia. The word ‘boertjie’ comes from the Dutch word for ‘farmer’ and became popular when the British were fighting with the farmers in Southern Africa, the Boer War. The ‘tjie’ is a diminutive suffix.
