In a corporation, this is a person who was hired solely because of the color of their skin, or their sexual identity, as opposed to their actual skills or contributions to the company. This person is usually employed for reasons including company PR or lower government taxation.

Get the Diversity hire mug.Someone underqualified for a job but hired anyway purely because they have a great personality/attitude. Personality hires are often very low performers in terms of output but are brought on because of bias / attraction / an effort to boost morale. Someone who is a personality hire is essentially the opposite of someone with impostor syndrome.
Me showing up to my job, knowing I'm a personality hire who doesn't bring anything to the table, but hey at least I bring good vibes.
