Phain

Phain (noun) is the filtered self of pain — the version of pain that we choose to show the world. It’s an edited sorrow, a curated grief, a silent scream behind a smile. Phain is the emotional mask worn by those who carry their hurt in silence, presenting peace to the outside world while struggling inside. It reflects the modern, digital age where even our pain must be masked and managed.
It is not fake, but it is the presentation of what’s real, often shaped by social norms. it's not fake pain it's filtered pain.
“She posted a picture of herself laughing, but I could see it — her joy was just phain, hiding the turmoil within.”
