Expoxxing

A blend of “exposing” and “doxxing,” recognizing that in contemporary internet culture the two are often inseparable. Exposés (revealing alleged wrongdoing) routinely include personal information, making the exposure itself a form of doxxing. Expoxxing captures the normalization of publishing targets’ addresses, workplaces, and family details under the guise of “holding people accountable.”
Example: “The thread called it an exposé, but it included her home address and her children’s school. That’s not exposing; it’s Expoxxing—doxxing dressed up as justice.”

Reactive Expoxxing

A combination of reactive exposing and reactive doxxing: the perpetrator provokes the target, waits for a reaction, then publishes both selective evidence of the target’s reaction and the target’s personal information, presenting the package as a justified exposé. The goal is to destroy the target’s reputation and safety simultaneously, using the target’s own provoked outburst as the moral cover. Reactive expoxxing is a favored tactic of organized harassment campaigns, where the perpetrator can claim they were merely “documenting” a threat while actually orchestrating the situation that created the threat.
Example: “After months of baiting, she made a vague angry post. He screenshotted it, added her full name and employer, and posted the thread as an ‘exposé of online toxicity.’ Reactive expoxxing: provoke, wait, then annihilate.”

Culture of Expoxxing

The fusion of the cultures of exposing and doxxing, where exposés routinely include personal details—addresses, phone numbers, employer contacts—as standard practice. Under this culture, it’s accepted that “exposing” someone means making them vulnerable to real‑world harm. The culture has eroded the distinction between information that serves public interest and information that serves harassment.
Example: “They called it a ‘call‑out’ but included her home address and a link to her employer’s contact form—pure Culture of Expoxxing.”
