This term originates from the parable told by Jesus in the Bible about a Samaritan (a man from a country called Samaria) who helps out a Jewish man who is ambushed by theives and left to die. This was all the more selfless of an act considering that the Jewish and Samaritan people in those times usually did not associate with each other. This story was told in response to a question concerning the scriptural mandate to "love thy neighbor as thyself". According to the story, a man asked "Who is my neighbor?" and the moral of the parable is that everyone is really your neighbor (meaning you should help anyone you see in need).
Today a Good Samaritan is usually someone who goes out on a limb to help others, even if they are complete strangers.

Get the Killer Samaritan mug.A Catholic school in Preston, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia with a high Muslim population to the point where the actual Catholics don't go to school on Islamic holidays due to the decline in attendence.
A school where the dodgy teachers only last 3 months, to get some experience in their first year out of teacher's college, before having a mental breakdown and moving on to greener pastures (even if they are rolling across them in straightjackets).
A school which spends money on things like self promotion when there is nothing of value to promote (see the recently decommissioned purple and yellow "Samaritan tram" as a case in point). Despite the fact that the school oval is an oblong and the basketball court has no basketball rings.
A school which spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a lift for disabled students, got the archbishop in to bless it, and saw the only disabled student leave the school.
A school that tried to enforce uniform standards and got the response "Sir, are you trying to make this like a rich school or sumfink?" No child, that's impossible...

Get the samaritan mug.A rare disease caused in during the early weeks after fertilization when there are 3 extra chromosomes present in the zygote. This rare form of chromosomal disorder causes you to suffer from facial deformities, mental retardation, and frequent diarrhea. This is a serious disorder and victims of this disease must be monitored closely to insure their survival. Failing to follow instructions given by the doctor monitoring may cause the victim to die or be in critical condition.
This disorder, along with many others such as down syndrome and turner's syndrome, currently have no cure, babies born with these disorders are very unfortunate. Scientists are currently studying this disorder and trying to come up with a cure for it.
We are all very fortunate to be away from such diseases.
