In physics, a "Theory of Everything" is a meta-theory that would encompass quantum mechanics and general relativity. In sociology, it might be a model for how political ideologies form. It's the attempt to find the rules that govern the rulebooks, often succeeding only in creating a new, even more abstract rulebook.
