Soviet achievements

Soviet achievements and innovations were mostly based on espionage, copies/rip offs and forced labor as their initial space program turned out to be. The reason for this is that the atmosphere did not encourage creativity as commies tended to mediocre everyone and the system's bureaucratic rigidity et cetera. After such a waste of talent and brain drain, no one has to wonder about the backwardness of its today's successor, in practice it is still a developing country when taking into account its poor infrastructure, corruption, "justice system" and the share of exports of raw materials in GDP etc. and this current authoritarian regime does not improve the situation to say the least.

About the before mentioned space program; there were ca. 2,000 German rocketeers (engineers, scientists and mathematicians) as a forced labor on the Soviet space program from the end of the war till the late 1950s. Russkies recall eagerly about on the contribution of Wernher von Braun and partners to the US' space program, but for some reason they have a common amnesia in their very own case.

Let's forget rockets and the Sputnik in 1957 because much more significant achievement happened in 1969, the first toilet paper factory! The machines had been imported from the UK, albeit it took years to meet the need of the whole country - in fact, it appears to be still a chronic deficiency in public restrooms if someone daredevil has the courage to visit one.
- "Sputnik in 1957 was nothing compared to the one of the greatest Soviet achievements in 1969."
- "What was this achievement?"

- "The first toilet paper factory in the Soviet Union began production."
- "Oh, how about before that, did they all wipe their ass with a Pravda (Truth) newspaper or with an owl like tree huggers?"

- "Not all, some Tovarištš Comrades had imported toilet paper available, you know, all assholes were equal, but some assholes were more equal than others." (slightly modified George Orwell quote from his 'Animal Farm')

achievement hunter

A video gamer who plays games to unlock achievements on a gaming service, such as Microsoft Studios' Xbox Live, Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Network (trophies), and Valve Software's Steam. Achievement hunters often have a tendency to be completionists.

The term is named after the popular Rooster Teeth Productions division called Achievement Hunter, which started out as website for achievement guides before becoming a well-known Let's Play group.
My friend is an achievement hunter. He won't stop playing a game until he unlocks every single achievement out of it.

Achilles Complex

The condition that some people have where their fatal flaw is hubris. Hubris is having too much pride to the point of thinking that they do not need help and can do anything on their own without outside help, even when the situation is a snipe with a shotgun.

The condition comes from Achilles in the Trojan War where the gods told him he could not kill all of the Trojans without help but he charged on anyways, which led to his death. The pride inside of him made him charge into battle so he could keep his pride instead of lose his pride, and then his honor.

It's probably best to let the person with Achilles Complex to find out their own way that they will need help with the task at hand. If you insist on helping before they ask, you will miss one thing and another will happen. You will miss them actually asking for help (they just rejected all of their pride), and jumping in before they ask will just anger them. All you can do is wait for their call for help. Then, if you are not a douche, you will help. If you are a douche, then you should kill yourself before the person with Achilles Complex does.
Me: Hey check out the hot blondes over by the pool.
Sam: You will just be shot down. Look around.
Me: I'm doing it anyways.
Sam: You really do have the Achilles Complex. Want my help?
Me: Hell no. If I wanted it, I would have asked.
Sam: Ok. Good luck.

Achievement unlocked

A phrase used mainly by the gamer community to express a feeling of satisfaction after having successfully completed a particular task or venture.

"Achievement unlocked" is the official phrase used on Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. The phrase appears on the screen after the player has accomplished a specific in-game task.

The phrase was first used out of game context in the comedy series "The Guild."

Back when I lived in upstate new york

A meaningless, unimpressive, self-serving introduction. An indicator that the story about to be shared will be pointless and dumb.
Back when I lived in upstate new york, I also had to park on the street - on two occasions, we got enough snow, mixed with just the right plowing, that my car was lifted off the ground from so much snow being jammed underneath it.

Sister: This meeting was to discuss the rough draft of my essay, where we discussed the subsidiary questions I added in my rough draft. We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
