On a Saturday in May, people are asked to put non~perishable food on their mailboxes for the letter carriers to pick up & it goes to a local food bank.
I had to put my mailbox food out the night before because I have a very late schedule. It makes me happy to help people.

syro-malabar
Syro-Malabar Catholics are heavily latinized Oriental Catholics from Kerala, India who consider themselves to be "Roman Catholic". They are the Indian diocese of the Church of the East (East Syriac Rite) that came in full communion with the Holy See of Rome in the 16th century. Syro-Malabarians employ the Liturgy of Ss. Although there are a minority of Tamils, Telugus, and North Indians from the various eparchies in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and northern & western India. Syro-Malabarians share the East Syriac liturgy with the Chaldean Catholics, Oriental Catholics from Iraq.

Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
