EL Cucuy is a Mexican urban legend. Legend says it that once upon a time a father was really angry at his kids for misbehaving. As a matter of punishment, he decided to lock his kids in his closet to learn their lesson. After a while, he decided to go to town and run some errands but he forgot to take his kids out of the closet. When he came back from the town he saw that his barn and his house caught on fire which killed the kids and the father was cursed. In disbelief, he decided to look for his kids in many closets. It has been years from look for his kids and started growing an appetite for them. Now he hunts kids and hides in closets at night waiting for the right moment to pounce.

Or the definition is A Mexican legend often used for misbehaved children saying that he will get them at night if they don't behave. Also, legend has it that whoever hears the true legend will catch a glimpse of him at night, SLEEP WELL.

cucuybird 

The 3rd (pre-adolescent) stage of development in the life cycle of the cucuy. A winged, hummingbird-sized alien being found exclusively in the forests of central New Mexico, USA. The cucuybird feeds on insects as it gains strength before growing into the chupacabra, or adolescent-phase cucuy. When feeding, the cucuybird emits a high-pitched chirping sound much similar to sky-cars on the popular 80's children's cartoon, "The Jetsons". El Cucuy is a monster that steals and harms children that are trouble makers or that disobey their parents. Although known as a myth, many hispanic parents use the phrase, "Te va llevar el Cucuy" or "The Cucuy is going to take you" to scare their kids into behaving or into staying where they told them to stay.

El Cucuy es un monstro que roba y hace daño a los hijos desobedientes y traviesos. Aunque el Cucuy es conocido como una mytha, los padres latinoamericanos o hispanos usan el frase, "Te va llevar el Cucu si no quedes hayi" o "Si no vas a hacer caso, te va llevar el Cucuy y yo no te voy a ayudar cuando te lleva".

Hijo - "Ma, yo no quiero ir a misa! Si me tratas de llevar a fuerzas, voy a correr a mi cuarto y voy a poner el seguro en la puerta para que no entres!"
