Product of the environment

Share definition Flag
It means that the person you are is a direct result of how you grew up. The "environment" you were brought up in influenced the decisions you make now. Your environment makes you who you are.
So for example, product of the environment implies that if one grows up in a home full of domestic violence, one of the children in that home may become violent as well when they have a family of their own. If someone grows up in the hood, that person may become a gangster. If somebody grows up in a descent home that is filled with good resources (computer, good books, television, radio, etc.), then they are more likely to become successful. If somebody grows up in a Christian home, they will most likely become a Christian. If somebody grows up in the Middle East or in a home with Muslim parents, they are more likely to be Muslim.

disney environmentalism

A form of environmentalism, based entirely on emotions, instead of science. Jumping to emotional conclusions, without even trying to understand the science behind what's going on. If your view of nature, look's like the forest from the disney movie bambi, that's disney environmentalism.
People say we should all live on green power, and organic food, but never think it through. You just can't keep 7 billion people fed, and warm that way. It's total disney environmentalism.

a place or area where rules, regulations and behavioral norms are subject to strict enforcement or scrutiny. A person responsible for maintaining order in a controlled environment will normally strive to appear consistent when out in the open, but may enforce rules arbitrarily behind closed doors.
Kids who grow up in excessively controlled environments often fall behind in college, having all that freedom to cut loose but not knowing how to manage it.

Product of the Environment

An expression that states that people may behave or act a certain way as a result of the environment they live in. So for example if someone lives in a poverty stricken area and cannot get a job, they may become a thief. If someone grows up in an environment such as Communist China, that person may become a Communist himself.

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.
