darkpop

Share definition Flag
Darkpop was primarily an abstractly post-punk type of music that coincided with things like Gothic rock/deathrock and the New Romantics in the late '70s and early '80s (though especially the latter). This means artists inside or outside the mainstream that had dark (yet accessible) sensibilities, but weren't quite Goth or New Romantic (even though there is considerable overlap, admittedly).
Darkpop might include: Fad Gadget, The Smiths, Depeche Mode (mid-'80s to about 1990), some early Ministry. (Note: Ministry originally vacillated between Gothic rock and light, mainstream, New Romantic pop.)

darkpooled

When super rich assholes use their money to bankrupt companies using illegal dark pools to trade stock back and forth, driving the target stock prices into the dirt. Essentially, they route the sales of the stocks through the NYSE, but then the buys through the dark pool. This means that a "darkpooled" stock price will reflect the sales of shares and not the buying of shares.
AMC and Gamestop stocks have been darkpooled into oblivion.

Kenny's been darkpooling companies to death forever.

Someone that thinks you can say anything as long as you label it as dark humor. They then gaslight you by saying you take it too seriously.
Dark humor is a joke, so it needs to have some sort of punchline. However a Darkpologist would say something racist, sexist, or some other horrible event, and say "It's just dark humor snowflake."

It is the new kind of sub-genre of pop music that is more twisted and aggressive than regular upbeat pop music. The music usually conveys darker and somber lyrics but still incorporating the rhythm and beat of pop music. Artistes who define themselves as dark pop usually write songs about murder, death and other disturbing fantasies.
Examples of dark pop:

Natalia Kills
Lady Gaga
Evanescense

Kerli Koiv

Dark Pop

Share definition Flag
A different version of pop music which focuses on being dark and grim rather than being happy and uplifting.
One of the most notable dark pop artists is synthpop band Depeche Mode. Chief songwriter Martin Gore stated that he feels that more sad and depressing lyrical themes are more realistic, whereas he finds happy songs fake and unrealistic (at the same time, he also asserts that their music contains an element of hope).

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

Successful strivers:
- Barack Obama
- Harold Koh
