crabcage 

a more extreme synonym of the phrase "fishing for attention"; an oblique statement designed to provoke a follow-up question from the listener/reader (can refer to the statement itself or as a verb when referring to the use of such a statement).

very commonly used on facebook to bait comments asking for elaboration.

Dave said he couldn't make dinner because he'd be "out of the country." So obvious he wanted me to ask where he was going; it was a total crabcage.
