Hovris
1 (Noun: Hovris; Plural noun: Hovrises)
An arthropod creature, typically a kindly one, biologically built such that its head and antennae are low to the ground and/or facing the ground. One can very easily imagine a proper hovris sniffing or probing the ground with its antennae. Hovrises include isopods, lobsters, millipedes and beetles.
Upward-facing arthropods such as crabs and locusts are not Hovrises. Nor are cars named after Hovrises, like the Volkswagen Beetle. Hovrises must have a prominent olfactory organ like antennae.
2 (Verb: Hovris; Past tense: Hovrised; 3rd Person Present: Hovrises)
Meticulously sniff or probe something with one's antennae or other olfactory organs in a manner that one would imagine of a hovris. Vertebrates like mammals or other upward-facing animals may be incapable of this. This definition is synonymous with shortened language terms like "Hov."
3 (Exclamation: Hovris)
A family-friendly replacement for any exclamation or expletive, like "Heck," "Fuck" or "Shit."
