Dethy

An offensive extremely racist term for a person of Scottish origin.

Calling someone a "Dethy" is a collective way of calling somebody a rapist, pedophile or someone with a strong yearning or desire to have sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 18.

In several places in the UK it is considered as bad or vulgar as using the word "Nigger" to describe a colored person.

It is often used in the same context as "Gay", meaning it is often used as an insult as opposed to actually describing somebody in this context.

Stay away from that kindergartener, Dethy.

Dehydro

The figurative bad guy who constantly dries your body out as you sleep after a night of heavy drinking, causing you to wake up every half hour or so feeling like you're stranded in the middle of the desert. You chug as much water (or any available liquid that's hopefully not more booze) as you can, and go back to sleep, and soon wake up gasping for more water and needing to urinate as well. This is because Dehydro is much better at drying you out than the water is at rehydrating you.

If you are so drunk that you manage to sleep through the night, Dehydro teams up with the toxins in your blood stream to give you a hangover worse than death.

Dehydro was a real bastard last night. I hardly got any sleep at all.

Dethklok

A death metal band of legendary proportions, and the focus of the show Metalocalypse. Led by singer Nathan Explosion, Dethklok is considered to be the world's greatest cultural force. They held a concert in the Arctic Circle that featured only one song - a tune written for the coffee company Duncan Hills - and over 300,000 fans from around the world showed up for the event. Dethklok's concerts are so intense that fans have to sign "pain waivers" before they're allowed to enter. Dethklok is god of all metal bands - past, present, and future.

Diethyl ether

Diethyl ether is a solvent that is useful for grignard reactions. It's also an anesthetic. Diethyl ether is highly flammable (even electrical outlets and too high temperatures can ignite it. Diethyl ether must be stored with butylated hydroxytoluene to avoid peroxide products which are explosive. Diethyl ether is also sometimes used for extractions, but other solvents like ethyl chloride, chloroform, toluene, hexane, and dichloromethane are generally preferred. Diethyl ether is synthesized by reacting ethanol with sulfuric acid. This reaction must be carried out at temperatures lower than 150 °C in order to ensure that an elimination product (ethylene) is not a product of the reaction. At higher temperatures, ethanol will dehydrate to form ethylene. The reaction to make diethyl ether is reversible, so eventually an equilibrium between reactants and products is achieved. Getting a good yield of ether requires that ether be distilled out of the reaction mixture before it reverts to ethanol.

I reacted ethyl magnesium chloride in diethyl ether with acetone, then reacted it with hydrochloric acid, and got 2-methyl-2-butanol.
