This term is a response to the aftermath of the #MeToo movement and is considered a sub-movement of the MWA (Men Walking Away) movement. Men using this term are choosing to avoid situations that could result in wrongful accusations, including developing close relationships with female colleagues, making the first move on dates, spending time alone with romantic interests, and only engaging in formal communication with women who are not close friends or family members.
After witnessing the repercussions of the #MeToo movement, John decided to adopt the #NotMe stance, choosing to avoid any situation that could potentially lead to a misunderstanding or false accusation.
