This phrase is used when a sudden or surprising moment, event or experience takes place which generally involves shock, amazement or awe.

The word "Ooya" precedes the word basket the more the moment or event is amazing or astonishing.

The uniqueness of the phrase "ooya basket" also requires the one who utters it to strech the two words to further emphasise the astoundment of the moment or event. This can mean that the phrase can end up as "oooooya baaaaaasket!" when a crazy incident takes place.

This phrase can be heard on a daily basis on the streets of Leicester.
