derailing a thread

The act of throwing a thread in a discussion forum off topic, oftentimes so much so that the original discussion is unable to continue.

A common result of a troll attempting to have fun at the expense of people actually trying to use the forum.

A common result of a flame war between multiple users.

Commonly helped along unintentionally by people who are simply off topic, as well as the occasional Grammar Nazi
Here is an example as might happen in the forum of an unreleased video game:

Topic: Post your ideas for things you want the developers to put into the game!

Original Poster:
Hey guys Ill edit my post to add ur ideas to this post Ill start off with destructible terrain no one's pulled that off as well as X-Com did back in the day.

Grammar Nazi:
Man Original Poster! What's with all of the huge run on sentence! Use some punctuation while you are at it too. Also, don't say ur, abbreviations are for text messaging, no one's gonna take you seriously.

Troll:
Haaahaaa, whatever Grammar nazi, ur so shtupid, wher'd u get ur PHD, shtupid land? n` Original Poster, wat u doin playin such an old game like X-Com for, it's SOOOO dated, I hate da graphics and der are so many bugs n crap

Original Poster:
Hey, X-Com is still rated the #1 game of all time by a lot of people! Who cares if it's got dated graphics, and if you get the right version or a fan made patch you can run it on a modern system easy.

Moderator:
Troll, stop trying to derail threads, this is your first warning, two more and it's a ban.

And Grammar Nazi, don't correct people's grammar in a thread, if you absolutely MUST do it, send a private message instead so it doesn't clutter up the forum!

I see you two derailing a thread every time I log onto the forum. And Original Poster, get back on topic or I'm going to lock this thread,

detailed programmatic specificity

something the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, says in speeches. Problem is no-one knows what it means.
"No idea what detailed programmatic specificity means." - Mr Turnbull

details

1. A word that is synonymous for many different words depending on the context, often referring to specifics, particulars or minutiae.

2. It can also reference the physical anatomy that makes a woman physically attractive to men.

3. A hot girl, or a girl with a great body.

The word "details" is an excellent gap word or code word for certain topics when used correctly in context among a group of friends.
The example below references multiple instances where using the word "details" would be appropriate:

Guy 1: Dude, Lollapalooza this year was AWESOME!!!
Guy 2: Yeah? What was it like -- fill me in with ALL the details!
Guy 1: There were sooo many hot chicks there -- I couldn't stop staring at all their DETAILS!!! I even yelled out to this one hot chick, "Nice DETAILS!!!"
Guy 2: Sounds awesome -- I'm totally going next year!!!

Shit detail

A bullshit job in the military or police force. A position on a weak, dead-end investigation.
"Johnson's a prick, give him the shit detail." (Often used on the HBO police drama The Wire.)

Obsession-To-Detail

The extreme form of "attention-to-detail" that often plagues graphic designers; ultimately preventing them from finishing their creative projects in a timely manner. Perfectionists in many professions may claim they suffer from this syndrome as well.

Symptoms of O.T.D. Syndrome:

- Repeated Ctrl "Z" commands after every modification you make to your project

- Staring blankly at your half finished project after smashing Ctrl "Z" for the last half hour

- The inability to complete a small project in less than 24 hours (i.e. banners, buttons, image corrections etc.)

- The urge to "start over from scratch" more than once on a large project
Jason: Hey, did you finish that 600 x 255 banner for our webpage yet? Its been over a week already; are you having some trouble?

Patty: OMG I am totally suffering from obsession-to-detail… I don’t know why I don’t like ANYTHING I am coming up with.

Jason: It just needs to say “Super Sale” in red lettering on a white background… how hard can that be?`
