chancletera

A Hispanic woman who is always seen wearing flip-flops. Cotton balls may be present in between the toes to absorb the excess nail polish. The flip-flops may be made out of paper and/or cardboard and are generally obtained at the Chinese beauty salon where the chancletera gets her $5 pedicures. If in a dressy mood, the chancletera may upgrade to plastic flip-flops purchased at the 99-cent store next door to her favorite nail salon.

Chancleteras are frequently found in strip mall parking lots, yelling at her Metro PCS phone, while feeding Cheetos and Budweiser to her children. It is advisable to not directly engage or even acknowledge a chancletera, as this may cause her to fling a flip-flop at you and/or demand child support payments.

Bill: Why is that woman walking on broken beer bottles with her flip-flops? Doesn't that hurt?

Jose: No man. She's a chancletera. She's used to it.

Chancletera

Woman who likes to walk in flip flops, even if she is dressed up, she will always wear flip flops. Generally Puerto Rican or of some other Hispanic origin, she is a woman who always walks noisily making the characteristic sound that flip flops make when hitting her soles. She also likes to take off her flip flops, which can get her feet dirty.

Laine: Jennifer, why you always wear flip flops? People will say you're a chancletera.
Jennifer: I just love it, and yes, I'm a chancletera, my chancletas' noise warn that I'm going down the street.

chancletudo

In Costa Rica, and perhaps other Central American countries, it stands for fake hippies - those that dress like hippies and try to look like hippies, selling cheap handicrafts and deficiently juggling on the street (save a few exceptions), but are quick to start trouble - many times ending up in violence (information came from various sources).

Chancletudos are well known to be thieves and troublemakers.

Chancletudas are well known to be very cheap prostitutes posing as hippies.

If you happen to travel to Central America, be wary of these people. Some are ok, but most are very shady.

..just a word of advise directed to travellers.
