A portmanteau of "Martyr" and "Matriarch."
A specific breed of affluent, liberal white woman who maintains her high social status through the aggressive performance of guilt and self-flagellation. Unlike a "Karen" (who demands to speak to the manager), a Martryarch demands to apologize on behalf of the manager to people who didn't ask for her help.
She rules her social circle not by displaying strength, but by displaying how "suicidally empathetic" she is. She views her own comfort as a sin, yet refuses to give it up, instead choosing to "pay for it" through lectures on privilege and by adopting the trauma of marginalized groups as her own personal aesthetic.
