Hunter S Thompson

A sports journalist and author made famous by his highly opinionated articles, a style which was later dubbed by an unimpressed critic as "Gonzo Journalism." He became a cultural icon in the late 60's for his very open and honest accounts of drug and alcohol use.

He wrote many books about his adventures with narcotics; most notably, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."
- Hunter S Thompson

Hunter S Thompson

The only journalist that ever mattered.
brought light the fact that the American dream is misguided.
Authored some of the greatest works of our time.
Took his own life, and with it he took away the last of the great American writers.

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 18, 1937.
Also known as "Raoul Duke" or "Dr. Gonzo", Thompson originated as a sports journalist for numerous publications. He went on to work for Rolling Stone during the late 60s and 70s. He has also published several very popular and critically acclaimed books, including "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas" which was turned into a film by Terry Gilliam in 1998, starring Johnny Depp as Thompson himself and Benicio Del Toro as well. He has been known to stretch the truth at times, usually the result of self-proclaimed usage of heroic amounts of hardcore drugs. Many critics dismiss his unusual style due to his mixture of fact with fiction at times, but he is widely considered a literary genius and an icon of outspoken, unapologetic social commentary.

here is an example of his writing from "Fear & Loathing On The Campaign Trail '72"...

"There are only two ways to make it in big-time politics today: One is to come on like a mean dinosaur, with a high-powered machine that scares the shit out of your entrenched opposition (like Daley or Nixon) . . . and the other is to tap the massive, frustrated energies of a mainly young, disillusioned electorate that has long since abandoned the idea that we all have a DUTY to vote. This is like being told you have a DUTY to buy a new car, but you have to choose immediately between a Ford and a Chevy."
Jose Contreras: I think that Hunter S. Thompson's writing suffered as a result of his drug use.
Bruce Lee: you pig motherfucking little boy felcher! Thompson's writing is much more interesting when the affect of drugs is apparent.

Hunter S. Thompson

An American humorist and satirist. He is credited as one of the original "new" journalists. His style is described as Gonzo journalism. Born in 1937, he authored close to a dozen novels while writing for Rolling Stone Magazine and ESPN.com. He died in 2005.
Hunter S. Thompson's writing style is described as Gonzo Journalism.

Hunter S. Thompson

Amazing journalist, quite possibly the greatest person to ever walk the earth besides the Dalai Llama.
famous quotes by Hunter S. Thompson:

"Bill Clinton does not inhale marijuana, right? You bet. Like I chew on LSD but I don't swallow it."

"In four short years he has turned our country from a prosperous nation at peace into a desperately indebted nation at war. But so what? He is the President of the United States, and you're not. Love it or leave it."
–on George W. Bush

"All we have to do is get out and vote, while it's still legal, and we will wash those crooked warmongers out of the White House."

"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."

"I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours."

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."

"Going to trial with a lawyer who considers your whole life-style a Crime in Progress is not a happy prospect."

hunter s. thompson

Author of the 'Fear and Loathing' articles published in the Rolling Stones magazine back in the 70's and 80's. Associated with 'Gonzo Journalism'. Was a cool guy, alchoholic since he was 14, always smoking pot and doing drugs and he wasn't afraid to hide it from the world. The movie 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' starring Johnny Depp is based off him. He shot himself in the head with a shotgun in 2005 at 67 years old. Johnny Depp is making a new movie about him called the "Rum Diaries" due out in 2007. RIP HST. Look for his videos/interviews on youtube.
I wish I could hit some acid and smoke pot with Hunter S. Thompson.

trucker's tan

A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.
I had a trucker's tan after driving for 10 straight hours on a sunny day.

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
According to the boffins downstairs, the murderer used a serrated blade.

Pee Calculus

When you have to pee in a movie but don’t want to miss anything, and must do the following mental equation: will the amount I have to pee cause enough discomfort to diminish my attention capacity for the remainder of the movie to an extent which is greater than the amount of the movie I would miss by making a mad dash to the restroom.
I saw Satantango last night, wonderful film but by the 5th hour I had to start doing pee calculus.
