Trigger-baiting

Trigger-baiting is the act of deliberately creating content designed to provoke a strong emotional response, typically anger or outrage, in order to boost engagement or farm for views through algorithm-driven exposure.
Trigger-baiting people can be harmful, especially when it leads to online bullying and harassment.

This video was clearly made to trigger-bait people and boost the creator’s views and engagement stats.

Triggerbait

A video or other media that was created with the sole purpose of triggering people.
That video was complete triggerbait.

triggerbitch

I want this in the Urban Dictionary.⬇️
(a)Triggerbitch(es):
A person(s) of any gender characterized by exasperating every social conflict or emergency by their overreaction, inability to prioritize, lack of knowledge, hysterical call to action, followed by self-congratulatory statement that everything went awesome in spite of their ineptitude at every step.
'I had an argument with a triggerbitch about coffee at work, in 5 seconds she was pissed, cried, and screamed that I was being agressive. By then another triggerbitch called me bro and wanted to take it outside.

Triggerbait

A specialized form of reactbait focused specifically on triggering psychological trauma or intense emotional distress in a target. Triggerbait involves identifying a person's known triggers—past trauma, deep fears, painful memories—and deliberately invoking them. A single word, an image, a reference to a traumatic event—carefully chosen to cause maximum psychological pain. The goal is not just reaction but wounding, not just emotion but damage. Triggerbait is psychological warfare at its most intimate and cruel, requiring knowledge of the target's vulnerabilities and willingness to exploit them.
Example: "She'd shared once that she had PTSD from a car accident. Months later, after an argument, he triggerbaited her: a graphic description of a car crash, timed to catch her alone at night. She spiraled, couldn't sleep, couldn't function. He'd stored her trauma like ammunition, waiting for the perfect moment to fire. Triggerbait had done its work: maximum pain, minimal effort."

Triggerbait (Content Making)

A content strategy that deliberately invokes sensitive topics—trauma, identity, politics, abuse—to provoke visceral emotional responses and maximize engagement. Unlike reactionbait, which often aims for general shock, triggerbait targets specific psychological vulnerabilities. Creators may feign trauma, mock genuine suffering, or create content designed to “trigger” certain communities (e.g., making light of sexual assault, mocking mental health struggles, trivializing historical atrocities). The goal is to ignite controversy that drives algorithmic amplification. Triggerbait exploits the fact that outrage and pain travel faster than thoughtful content, treating real human suffering as fuel for metrics.
Triggerbait (Content Making) Example: “The video was titled ‘Why victims are just too sensitive.’ It had no argument, just provocative statements designed to make trauma survivors flood the comments. Textbook triggerbait: using others’ pain for views.”
