The various religious texts record that in the beginning there was chaos, from which a God created the heavens and earth. That's a feat of engineering. God also said "let there be light" and there was light - a task which now universally falls to the electrical engineer.

But why, then, is engineering only the second-oldest profession? The oldest profession is lawyer. Who do you think created all of that chaos?

It is a profession where one can easily work for oneself eg a barber, doctor or accountant as opposed to say a policeman or engineer where it is very hard to work for yourself.

When the economy went bad, I was happy that I was in a free profession so I could get work by working for myself.

illegal profession 

The correct term for the profession usually euphemized as the legal profession. Applies to attorneys, lawyers, solicitors, counselors, barristers, or what ever other euphemism they come up with for their profession.

The euphemism legal profession is used by members of the illegal profession to distract the public from the conflict of interest that is inherent to their profession due to the fact that most legislators either have already been, or eventually will become, attorneys.

Members of the illegal profession wouldn't need to distract us if they didn't get paid a week's wage for an hour's work.
