Montrose Effect

The Montrose, Akron, Ohio variation of what happens when a Taco Bell or similar low grade chain restaurant appears on empty farmland, immediately followed by dozens of additional chain restaurants and poorly planned strip malls. The result is a traffic clusterfuck on top of a social black hole, on top of an environmental disaster, known in any other place as suburban sprawl.

In every city I visit, there is at least one stretch of highway full of big box stores and crappy chain restaurants--a sure sign that the Montrose Effect has taken place.

Montrose

A small town on the western slope of Colorado. Previously known for the highest teen pregnancy rate and a high level of meth-heads. More recently famous for a seventeen year old girl having her throat slashed in the high school before classes began one day.
People complain about there being nothing to do..but hey, Dennys and Wal-Mart are open 24 hours!!

A town on the east coast of Scotland, north of Arbroath and south of Stonehaven. About half way between Dundee to the south and Aberdeen to the north. Home to the Montrose Basin.

Eugene Montross

When MTVu asked Travis (of Gym Class Heroes) "Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?" he replied "EUGENE MONTROSS IS COMIN’!"

Also, at the 2007 MTV VMA's, Tyga (Travis's cousin) was wearing a shirt that said "Who is Eugene Montross?"

There's even a website eugenemontross.com that says nothing but Who Is Eugene Montross?

So far, the public still doesn't know what Eugene Montross is all about, but we'll probably be finding out soon...
