A fancy term for someone who follows a societies gender whether they're not really straight and are fearing they wont fit in or are a normal, straight man or woman.

Steven was a heteronormal neurotypical, a man in society who is considered very normal. Also know as a straight normal individual.

Heteronormative 

A viewpoint that expresses heterosexuality as a given instead of being one of many possibilities.

Often expressed subtly, heterosexuality is widely "accepted" as the default sexuality by both print and electronic media, education, law makers, and a range of attitudes expressed by society in general.

The subtle assumption of heterosexuality can be very harmful to those who do not entirely fit within its bounds.

A Heteronormative assumption that a boy will grow up and marry a woman.

A Heteronormative assumption that a girl will grow up and marry a man.

Heteronormative children's books only portraying heterosexuality.

Heteronormative TV Shows only portraying heterosexuality and the assumption that every character is heterosexual.

A term that can be used to describe institutions, policies and beliefs that reinforce the rigid categories of male and female. These categories, supposedly, determine our sex, sexuality, sexual desire, gender identity, and gender roles.

The proposed law to make sure homosexuals never have marriage rights is just another step down the slippery heteronormativity slope.

Heteronormativity 

The reason all the commercials featuring happy families, show heterosexual relationships. The reason that if you say, "I'm seeing someone" a person might automatically ask who the person is, referring to them as "she" if you're a boy, or "he" if you're a girl. It is the belief that only male/female relationships are "normal" and that everyone falls into two distinct categories: male and female. It is the assumption that a girl will grow up and marry a man, and that a boy will grow up and marry a woman.

Friend: "Who's your crush?"
Boy: "I don't want to say."

Friend: "Come on, tell me her name!"

Boy: "...it's a he."

Friend: *shocked* "Ohh...sorry"
Boy: "It's not your fault. It's just that we grew up in a world ruled by heteronormativity."

Heteronormative 

1. Uber-PC term used by very angry and radical LGBT elements, referring to the perception of heterosexuality as normal, and other orientations, by extension, as being "different." As this point of view is a given for most people in the mainstream, even the very gay-tolerant, the term may be considered prejudicial, and is not widely used outside of the LGBT community. Often passed over in favor of the term, heterosexist, the latter being less awkward to pronounce.

2. Term used by the same elements to attack gays for being "not gay enough," for being too assimilated, or straight-acting, or for simply getting along too well with straight people.
