bfwid

(Pronunciation: buh-F’WID)

An acronym which stands for “best friend(s) with intention to date,” describing someone with mutually romantic intentions, but who is not quite ready to have a formal relationship. Usually falls between “just friends” and an official dating relationship.

Generally used as a noun, but can also be a verb (bfwiding).

“He’s not my boyfriend—we’re just bfwids.”
“They’re just bfwiding—they’re not actually dating yet.”
“Hey everyone, meet Don—he’s my bfwid.”

A BFWAD is someone who no matter what happens between you guys, you will always be best friends. Similar to a true friend, but a different way of saying it.
