The phrase is a play on ‘catfishing,’ which means pretending to be someone you are not... to lure someone into a relationship. Woke Fishing 

Woke fishing is when a man, whom is talking to a woman, starts asking her vague questions regarding progressive causes, in an effort to determine her interest level, and then mirror her responses. Said man has no interest in the same groups or causes, and is just trying to find commonalities with the girl to get into her pants.

Guy 1: Why did you just tell Sara you donated to BLM? You hate that group.
Guy 2: Oh I'm just woke fishing man. I'll be in her pants by Saturday.

When the Free Palestine community hijack woke causes such as police brutality or climate change. It’s the act of taking over another cause with your own cause that is unrelated to the original cause.

Marching with Palestinian flags at the woman’s rally is an example of wokewashing.

Using woke idiology to justify actions or positions you would otherwise find immoral or wrong, or to gain an advantage over a member of a non-protected class.

1. Bruce initially felt wrong about taking all the credit for Ted's work, but he wokewashed it with the rationale that "straight white men have been stealing for hundreds of years, so now it's my turn".
