Thanksgiver is a "Thanksgiving" dinner had before the actual day of Thanksgiving. It is usually celebrated by college students who have a dinner with their friends before going home to their family dinners on the day of Thanksgiving, or by people who have their dinner at an earlier date because they must travel on Thanksgiving and prefer to do it without an extremely full stomach.
Sandra decided it was better to have Thanksgiver rather then Thanksgiving because Marshal had to travel on the actual day of Thanksgiving and would not be home.

While the imagery and products surrounding the day are light-hearted, advocates contend it has a broader significance resonant with American democracy. "There are amazing similarities between the Pilgrims’ quest for religious freedom and what the Maccabees were fighting for,” one organizer told the New York Daily News.“This a great opportunity for Jewish Americans to celebrate this country and for everyone to acknowledge the greatness of our shared religious freedoms.”
