In precise, legal usage, it is the name of a felony that applies in some of the United States only during civil emergencies. In less precise usage, it can refer either to prices obtained by practices inconsistent with a competitive free market, or to windfall profits.

Take a $16 ticket, add $5.90 convenience charge, then add $2.20 for ordering online, and that's a 52% markup for a ticket to buy from ticketmaster.com

The blatant, purposeful and nefarious act of overcharging for condoms. Mainly perpetuated by chain drug stores, such as CVS, service stations, and assorted other 24-hr convenient stores.

Hey dude, I've got a tip for you. Never buy connies at CVS. I paid $13.49 for a box of 12, last week. Then tonight I went to grocery store, and the same prophylactics were $3.99. Dude, fuck CVS-- that's straight-up "dick-gouging!"
