Racial term referring to a person with arabic/middle eastern background who is educated (mainly indians). Being that: all 'indians' are becoming engineers theses days.
In the United States, the government is paying to have all these indian engineers come and work in their country since because they lack college graduates in that field - so they must import all these "engines", thus saying/assuming that if they are indian and educated, they are probably engineers

College student 1 " look at that group of engines, I bet they have perfect grades"

Get the ship engines mug."The tradition of the pre-race singing of "Back Home Again in Indiana" goes back to 1946, the first race after the track was closed four years for World War II and the first under the ownership of Tony Hulman. The Hulman era also ushered in the tradition of one of the most famous commands in sports, "Gentlemen, start your engines."

Get the Gentlemen, start your engines! mug.In the original Star Trek series, whenever the main engines (warp drive) broke down (which was pretty frequent) the Enterprise would only be able to move using "impulse engines" - a low power, sub-lightspeed manouvering system based on a small fusion ram/ion drive.
By inference, someone described as "running on impilse engines" or "impulse power only" is either:
1. Very tired (a.k.a. 'running on empty')
2. Genuinely ill
3. (derog.) Slow and/or stupid.

"Jesus, I've just had to brief the sales guys on the new product.... they're all running on impulse engies up there".
"You want to go for a beer ?"
"No, man, I'm running on impulse engines... got to go home and grab some sleep."
