Defeater
Defeater are a modern hardcore band from Boston who have gained a cult following among the hardcore underground with every amount of praise being completely earned. Defeater have only released one album and one EP, both of which being highly ambitious concept pieces. Their LP, Travels, chronicles the events preceding the suicide of a wayward man in which he kills his father and brother, and then mourns the death of his drug addicted mother. Their EP, Lost Ground, was written about a black World War II veteran who loses his entire infantry and then returns to the states just to be shunned by society, eventually turning to alcohol. Defeater will release their second LP, Empty Days and Sleepless Nights, in March of 2011.

Similar to the concept of defriending, defraternization occurs when a person removes a friend or a sibling from their list of family members on their facebook profile. It usually occurs when a person decides to finally get 'serious' about facebook or they no longer regard the other person as a brother/sister.

Deepwater Horizon
(CURRENT EVENTS) offshore oil drilling platform located off the coast of Louisiana and Mississippi. The platform was owned and operated by Transocean, LTD., under lease to British Petroleum (BP).
The well, which was in 1 mile of water, blew out (or ruptured) on 20 April 2010, and gushed millions of barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. On 14 July, the main rupture appeared to have been capped. By then, probably 4 million barrels of crude had been released into a sensitive habitat, destroying the livelihood of tens of thousands of people.
According to some estimates, the Deepwater Horizon blowout was the worst peacetime oil well blowout in history.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
