Bobcat Subculture:
BopCats as their called are a subculture that originated from Toronto Canada. They model themselves after the 50s. Taking fashion from the late 40s and 50s and putting a modern flair to it. This subculture is all about being
classy, stylish and cool.
Music: The group is open to all types of music and pride themselves on their music diversity. But their most often known for there special interest in Jazz and blues and in particular Bebop. The groups are often seen in
Jazz & Blues clubs enjoying the soulful music.
Stylish – Bop Guys in the culture are known for wearing fedora hats, dress shirts (unbuttoned with a shirt underneath) or buttoned accompanied with spiffy tie. If the shirt has a
breast pocket they also have a handkerchief. Pants are usually
black and have a bandanna (matching the color tie) hanging out of the back pocket. Shoes are either skater shoes or classic 50’s black and white
dance shoes. Guys in the group are known for being true gentlemen and pride themselves on Chivalry.
Bop Girls in the culture are often found wearing halter tops and retro mini skirts or
tight black jeans. Their also known for their use of makeup, some going for the Marilyn Monroe style. 50s jewelry and accessories are also all quite
popular. Hair styles vary but generally look natural. Looking
classy and
beautiful is what these girls are all about.
The group loves the past and as such adopts a lot of old fashioned
slang terms and phrases from the 50s making it so their speech sounds unique and old fashioned.
Ex: Actor = Show Off
Back Seat Bingo = Necking in a car
Cast an eyeball = to look
Classy Chassis = Great body
Cranked = Excited
Earthbound = Reliable
BopCat’s are great
people of all ethnic backgrounds who come together to enjoy their love for music with
one another and to have a great time doing it.
Person: "Hey check out that group of spiffy looking BopCat's over there. I bet their off to a Jazz club."
Bop Boy1: "Cast an eyeball at that girl over there."
Bop Boy2: "Woh, what a Classy Chassis"
Bop girl: "Last
night me and my boyfriend
played some back seat bingo."
BopCat: "Hey, lets go down to the
Rex and see who's jamming tonight."
