The matter left in a toilet after the first, and any subsequent, flush. (Also referred to a "two flusher") So named because a politician of a similar sounding name pushed the legislation mandating how much water we can use in our toilets.
After a night of drinking, I laid an algore in the john.
Verb, transitive, to algore a result (an election, a court finding, a scientific conclusion, a sporting event):
To refuse to concede a legitimate defeat, by employing teams of attorneys, increasingly-more-fanciful conspiracy theories and lawyerly machinations. Behaving without honor, dividing voters or spectators rather than uniting them, and tainting an opponent's legitimate victory and delaying the opponent's ability to celebrate and take office.
In the February 7, 2010 second round of elections, Yulia Tymoshenko ended up with 3.5% fewer votes than her opponent, Viktor Yanukovych, in an internationally-observed election deemed the cleanest-ever in Ukrainian history, but rather than do the honorable thing and concede, Yulia has algored the results.
algorithmic critical mass — the Urban Dictionary principle that states: the more words you enter into the Urban Dictionary, the easier it is to add words to the Urban Dictionary.
This is especially true if you make the words you add refer to your previous words based on known linguistic principles. In this way the algorithm reflects aspects of your mind; and your mind becomes one with the algorithm as well.
There is something more frightening than artificial intelligence and that is computer intelligence that merges with the mind of humankind.
What happens when infinite computing power merges with the full potential of the brain. I don’t know because I waste my mind on adding Urban Dictionary entries instead of contemplating more weighty problems.
But you have got to admit that that is an awesome Afrofuturistic observation.
If you add enough word to the Urban Dictionary you will reach an algorithmic critical mass where the algorithm will reflect your mind; and, your mind will reflect the algorithm.
1. a superlative term describing a person who is accomplished or exceptionally noteworthy in a specific field or area of work, sometimes though not always within the environmental or green sector.
2. to call someone the Al Gore of an area or field describes a person who had once experienced a tragic loss or hardship, but then later went on to accomplish great things. Gore's presidential bid in 2000 was considered tragic because he had won the popular vote but lost the electoral college to George W. Bush due to highly suspicious voting irregularities in a state governed by the winner's brother.
1. My geography professor is the Al Gore of water. Every year, he travels to developing countries to help bring about improvements to irrigation for populations without safe sources of drinking water.
2. Dave Grohl is like the Al Gore of rock & roll. He experienced the sudden, tragic loss of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, yet went on to front the biggest rock band in the world with the long-running Foofighters.
A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
