In Hebrew used as a word to descibe disbelief, that the thing at hand is not for Real, or as it appears to be.
Also can be used as a reply.

1)Do you know david? He is great...Aalek.
2)#:Did u have fun at the party?
@:Yes it was the bomb...Aalek.
3)He is Aalek a journalist.
