Like quicksand, its grip is unrelenting and the more one tries to extricate oneself, the more browser tabs one opens to continue down alternate paths. Usually starts out as a momentary tangent to try to dredge up memories of an old technology or company or natural disaster and quickly turns into an all-day waste of time. Not that learning is a waste of time, but you should really get back to work already. And close some of those tabs.
I only wanted to quickly look up this Senator, but I got stuck in wiksand and now I know all of the African countries by heart and the chemical make-up of capsaicin.
