Giulia Tofana was one the most successful serial killers in
history.
Born in
Italy, Palermo, Giulia Tofana was purportedly the leader of a ring of
six cosmetic factories in
Rome, Naples, Peruga and
Italy, which were mostly known for the disguised concoction as perfume called "Aqua Tofana".
It is
said to have been laces with lead, arsenic and belladonna. This poison was tasteless, scentless and invisible, making it easy to inject into liquids and dishes. The poison would
work slowly on a human.
Giulia would help aspiring widows to
murder their abusive spouses. For over 50 years, Giulia would only sell to women who had been reffered to her by a previous customer, along with a careful background checking on their
relationship and spouse.
Unfortunately, in 1650, a woman who had bought an Aqua Tofana, put a dose of it into a serving of soup for her spouse. As they sat down for the meal, she had a change of heart and begged him to not consume it. The spouse was getting irritated and suspicious of her, which resulted in him forcefully hurting her until she confessed to having laced his soup with poison.
He immediately turned her to the authorities, where she was tortured and confessed information about the Aqua Tofana. Giulia Tofana was able to hide, until there were rumors in the town she was currently in of her having poisoned the waters everywhere.
She was also taken, tortured, which made her confess to killing over 600 abusive
men, shortly after she was sadly executed.
