don't be such a sputnik

A sputnik is a guy who orbits around a woman, pretending to be her friend, with the ulterior and covert motive of becoming her lover.

Sputnik is a reference to the first artificial Earth satellite. Similar to the satellite that orbits Earth, the guy orbits the female friend, hoping for more. Therefore, he is an orbital.
Max, don't be such a sputnik! You do her homework daily but haven't even asked her out yet.

Sputnik Moment

A term popularized (although not coined, as many think) after being used by President Barack Obama in his 2011 State of the Union Address. It refers to a moment of challenge when a country (or person) realizes they must work harder to surpass their competitor. Caught on like wildfire that same night as Twitter users & others found the phrase catalyzed adolescent-like paroxysms of merriment for no absolutely discernible reason other than joyful immaturity.
Greg had his Sputnik Moment when he realized he was the same age as the dude who founded Facebook.

Jim: Dude, I just had my Sputnik Moment about Jenny.
Josh: What was it dude?
Jim: I caught her in a Sputnik Moment with Niles.

Spotnick

Spotnicks - people who subscribe to MyTaste on Spotify and then get the same song - or that's how it sounds - by different artists.
Some Guy: He got a subscription and they send him new songs every month, but they all sound the same. Some other guy: Genre bait to sell subs, he's become a bit of a spotnick, eh?

Sputnikmusic

Sputnikmusic is a famous music website mentioned by many popular music magazines and websites due to their music reviews. Known for their sophisticated reviews and whacky personalities, both staff and non-staff people (called users) are enabled to post music reviews, news articles, and music lists.
- Man, Sputnikmusic rated the new Taylor Swift album a 2.5. Holy shit!

- wow, this new review from Sowing is great.

- oh boy, this pizzamachine guy is a character but his reviews are good.

- who the fuck is this Johnnythewell guy???! He rated Sleep Token so low wtffff. Omg he sounds like such a snob. Does he even listen to the albums before he reviews them?

Sputnik is a term often used in the INTERNET forums to describe when a user snags an IP address from another user. The Sputnik method of IP retrieval is simply to set up a server on your home computer then you place image files. When in a forum you simply send a private message with the image file and the server you set up will tell you the IP of the person viewing the image. This is called the Sputnik . The Sputnik was named after a widely popular INTERNET real life person that goes by the handle Sputnik.
Hey that guy got my IP by sending me an image file in a private message. Looks I got a sputnik.

More from Urban Dictionary
West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
Some grebo passed with Sabbath playing on his stereo.
The Poppies are at no. 17? God, a grebo band in the charts!
They're playing nu-metal now, bloody grebos!
