saltydog 

The term Saltydog refers to a man who lives in the Canadian maritime provinces and is often employed as a fisherman or some related sea faring position. The term arose quite some time ago among people in the region whom were of Irish or Scottish heritage. In addition, the term dog has been used colloquially in reference to close friends of either sex, in fact, long before it gained popularity, and indeed notoriety among teens and ghetto youth.

Salty Dog 

1. Appalachian slang for favorite person, i.e. best friend or lover. Derived from the practice of rubbing salt on hunting dogs to keep off ticks. Since salt was commonly in limited supply, one would only do this to their favorite dog, and it became slang for favorite person.

2. A drink made with mixed rum and gin.

3. One who spends time on the ocean a lot, such as a sailor. Similar to sea dog.

We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
