Originates from the game Path of Exile when refering to items that have been modified by the 'corruption' mechanic as it modifies an item randomly but also prevents any crafting or alteration afterwards. Became very popular during the 'Scourge league' which introduced a mechanic where one can corrupt an item in even more special ways, causing many good items to be ruined by unlucky results.
