1. A creation such as a song that attempts to insult haters, but is such poor quality that it brings even more hate on itself.

2. A person who behaves in such a way (also known as a hater baiter).

The term sounds a little like "masturbate" which is no coincidence because ego and narcissism are where hater bait comes from.

1. Four minutes telling people they're just jealous, when the beat was crap and she couldn't even sing? That song was hater bait.

2. No, I'll criticize him if I want to. He deserves it: he's hater bait.

A person or persons who intentionally provokes angry, negative feelings.

Westboro Baptist Church is protesting a child's funeral. They're such hater baiters.

hater baiting 

1) Behaving in a manner that is intended to provoke haters.
2) Attempting to trick closet haters into revealing their true nature by stunting or flossing around them.
3) Enjoying your money without worrying about who's going to get jealous.

I usually don't care what other guys think of me when I go out, but sometimes I break out the good clothes and drive the Escalade to the club for a little harmless hater baiting.

Hate Bait 

purposefully hating on something/someone to generate online advertisement revenue.

Often referencing pop-culture or recent trends/event that will become insignificant in short time.

(1) The video "Dear Fat People" is clearly Hate Bait, as its only purpose it to get attention (views) through the use of hate speech.

(2) Everyone is reacting on TheFineBros for their ReactWorld format. Not because they want to provide a thoughtful discussion on the topic, but because they want to jump on the "hate" bandwagon and get some easy revenue.

hate-bait 

When someone posts something online(usually a video or comment), for the sole purpose of getting hate comments/interactions. The same way clickbait is purposely outlandish and misleading so people click on it, hate-bait is usually ridiculous or hateful so people react to it.

Jasper: “Did she really just say that?”
Henry: “Nah, bro that’s just hate-bait, ignore it.”
