Bulanism, a racial
philosophy, coined by Reuel-Azriel, is the philosophical and political stance that centers around the axiomatic identification and celebration of one's own qualities, beliefs, personality traits, appearance, and expressions of racial identity, and the active advocacy for the
use of the term "Bulan" as a more empowering and accurate classification for
people of
sub-Saharan African ancestry and indigenous peoples of Oceania, free from the derogatory and limiting racial slurs and classifications imposed by colonial oppressors.
The
core beliefs of Bulanism include the celebration of bulanness (Africanness) the promotion of cultural awareness and the advancement of social and economic justice for people of color. Bulanism is not just a movement, but a way of life that is grounded in the principles of
unity, self-love, and empowerment.
