loony binner
Someone who belongs in a loony bin but with the added subtle implication that even when a person appears fully functional and sane in the world that the truth can be entirely otherwise.
As I sat at my computer workstation on the other side of the wall from where the shrieking mentally ill prison inmate was coming entirely unglued, performing all of my workplace tasks without difficulty, a novel question popped suddenly into my head: just who exactly is the loony binner?

Verb. The act (or art) of sleuthing out and/or gaining intelligence from radio signals, esp. with a radio scanner or software-defined radio. To actually travel somewhere away from one's residence and spend the time needed to ascertain such information as who is using a frequency, where, how and why.

A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.

Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
