Get the participation mug.A "reward" one gets for merely participating. Although usually given with good intentions, more often than not it will remind the owner that he failed, and that his best is not good enough.
"Congratulations, here's a participation award, for doing your best!"
"...because apparently my best isn't good enough to actually win something."

Get the Participation Trophy mug.A "trophy wife" in the sense that we now live in a society where everyone gets a trophy. She's certainly not first, second, or even third place.
She is not even close to hot enough to be called a trophy wife - at best she's a participation trophy wife.

Get the Participation Trophy Wife mug.A trophy that is awarded, usually to a child, simply for participating. It is based upon the idea that this will enhance their self-esteem and somehow make them better adults. Despite the fact that there is absolutely no empirical evidence to support this idea, the trophies continue to be awarded. These children ultimately become young adults who can't quite understand why employers in the real world do not share their exalted vision of themselves. Disillusioned and bitter, with plenty of time on their hands, many participated in the Occupy Wall Street movement. Ironically, no trophies were awarded for participation in this event.
Let's show Dillon how much we love him by awarding him a participation trophy for doing absolutely nothing.

Get the Participation trophy mug.A woman who is not especially attractive or accomplished or motivated, however, she feels she should have a husband who takes care of her, even though she does not contribute anything to the marriage. This feeling is based on an overwhelming sense of entitlement which has been instilled in her since birth by years participation awards and celebrations of mediocrity. More often present in millennials.
She can't cook, refuses to clean, and does not want to work to support the home; I don't know how, but he ended up with a participation trophy wife
