The term is used as a greeting during lunch time. It is an assembly from the words "midday" and "mittags" (german for "midday"). Additionally, in Germany it is typical to just say "Mahlzeit." (english: "meal") during lunch time as a general greeting and single use response. The term "Middex" expands on this and will be repeated after the greeting at least 3 times per person.
