This name derives from the Old High German and Old Norse name “Godafrid and Guðifriðr”, composed of two elements: “*gudą” (god, deity, divine being) plus “*friþuz” (peace, tranquility, friendship). In turn the name means “God's peace, peaceful pledge, God gives me the peace of mind, my friendship with God”.
