HYZ refers to a specific type of writing style used by some students in the IB English Lang & Lit HL course. This writing style places a heavy emphasis upon analyzing the underlying messages of the text rather than the literary elements the text entails. HYZ users tend to philosophize extensively upon the themes the text conveys and their societal implications, instead of exploring the effects of the literary devices. Consequently, HYZ users tend to score well in Criterion A (textual understanding) and fare comparatively poorly in Criterion B (author's choices). The HYZ style is the epitome of mediocracy. It is almost impossible to fail an evaluation written in HYZ, yet it is equally challenging to attain a superior mark due to the lack of exploration of specific prominent literary elements. This style of writing first gained prevalence in 2021.
"It was written in 2 hours and I may have pulled a HYZ"
"Oof, I borderline HYZ-ed this and the teacher noticed"
"HYZ Style is clearly based on the LXL Theorem"
