Gates gate

Refers to the legal case in which Henry Louis Gates Jr, a Harvard Professor who teaches, among other topics, identity politics issues such as racial profiling accuses sergeant James Crowley of the Cambridge police force, who himself teaches other Cambridge police officers about racial profiling and how to avoid it, of racial profiling when sergeant Crowley arrested Professor Gates for disorderly conduct on July 16th 2009.
Pete: What's up with that thing about that black Harvard professor accusing the white cop of racial profiling?

John: Ya I've seen it. It's Gates gate. It's all over the news. Now get your fat brown eye off the remote so I can watch Red Eye.

gate games

A term used in online games during pvp. It occures when a person or a group of people uses a safe zone such as a town or arena to avoid being killed. They do this by engaging there enemy, followed by quickly running into a safe zone to avoid taking damage from the enemy. This is concidered a cheap tactic and usually occurs around gates leading into town.

Lych Gate

A lych gate is a roofed gateway to a churchyard with a stand on which the people carrying the coffin could place it, while they rested before moving into the church for the service. Often a lych gate would have seats as, before the days of motorised hearses, coffins were often carried considerable distances. The lych gate gave those carrying the coffin the opportunity to rest and gather themselves before carrying the departed on the last leg of their journey with care and dignity.
It's no surprise that so many English country churches have a lych gate.

Steins;Gate

Steins;Gate is an amazing sci-fi/drama anime about time travel. It follows the story of 18-year-old Okabe Rintarou, a self-proclaimed mad scientist who refers to himself as Hououin Kyouma. He, "super hacka" Hashida Itaru, and childhood friend Shiina Mayuri comprise the Future Gadgets Lab. Quite by accident, they discover that their Future Gadget #8, the Phone Microwave (Name Subject to Change), can send text messages to the past. They start sending more messages, radically changing past events (the butterfly effect) and eventually leading to distastrous consequences....

You should watch it. It will blow your mind.
Okabe Rintarou quotes:
"I'll say it once more. I am the mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma!"
"No one knows what the future holds. That's why its potential is infinite."
"This is the choice of Steins;Gate."
"El Psy Congroo."

And of course, the very best one...
(in heavily accented English) "Hey mister, I am mad scientist. It's so COOOOL! ... sonofabitch."

Freakin' awesome.

Steins Gate

A significant and important event, object, location, or time period . Stein's gate holds such a significance , simply because the word, onto itself means absolutely nothing, but whatever concept it is used to describe is important.

From the visual novel and anime/manga series Steins;Gate , where the term is used as a name for the ideal World Line.
" A world of equality and liberty, free of war and crime, is the steins gate for a peace activist such as myself"

Heaven's Gate Cult

In 90's there was a cult that thought they were going to get taken into the heavens in a space ship. Several of them got castrated to help them clear their mind, 'cause no one does those kinds of things in heaven. Once a room was found with 30 Heaven's Gate members who had commited suicide. They thought they were leaving their bodies so they could get into the spaceship, which was behind some comet that had happened to show up.

They claim to be Christian, but they're a cult, and no one is quite sure what they believe anymore. There's a lot of information about them online and wikipedia will link you to their official website as well.
Poor Sod: I'm lost, confused, self deprivating, and desperate. I should go join Heaven's Gate Cult! A cult would fill the void!
