Flirtip

n. A generous gratuity left by a customer in a restaurant, prompted by the waiter or waitress flirting outrageously. This may include social engineering tactics such as holding eye contact, smiling with teeth showing and touching the customer's arm.

In the case of a waitress and a male customer, for instance, the rule of thumb is: the higher on the arm the touch occurs and the firmer the pressure, the larger the flirtip will be. A casual brush of the customer's hand may generate a small flirtip, while a firm grasp of the upper arm can result in absurdly grandiose returns.

You're leaving a hundred bucks on a fifty dollar meal? Don't you think you're overdoing the flirtip?

verb:

1. The act of getting the interest of another person, usually of the opposite gender, without putting thought into it before doing it, and capturing that person's attention. A function of an individual's personality.

2. What an individual is doing when he or she flirts without even knowing his or her actions are perceived as some type of flirt, whether it be simply making a wise crack for a smiling; or, with direct eye contact and raised eyebrows, a simple innocent flirt could be perceived as having a more romantic tone.

Either way, over time, it can lead to serious attraction.

Women discuss how a guy is so funny and he's such a flirt.

He thinks he can't flirt and he completely misses that he is perceived that way by a majority of women with which he comes into contact each day. All he knows is that he makes wisecracks that get a laugh from the ladies and he loves an audience, the smaller the better. What he does is subconscious flirting, and he may be perceived as a persistent, non-stop, incessant flirt without intending to be.

Weeks, months, years or decades later, someone clues him in to the previously-existing or newly-found magnetic attraction.

To respond in an equally flirty manner to somebody's attempt at steering the conversation in a flirty direction.

My tennis partner remarked that I was "good at handling balls" and then winked. I wasn't sure whether to flirtciprocate or not so I just said "too right!" and laughed awkwardly.

Friend Flirting

To flirt with friends/or a friend without having the intentions of dating them, most times done when a person has nothing better to do. Sometimes this may be misinterpreted as "real" flirting. Meaning, flirting with the person because you actually liked them.

Friend 1: Did you see her and him flirting today?

Friend 2: No, she doesn't like him. She was just friend flirting with him.
