a psychological defence mechanism to deflect and repel droplets of facts that could threaten your world view, for example someone in a cult who refuses to listen to facts that would be difficult to reconcile with the teachings of the cult. A person deploying this device attempts to remain uninformed ("dumb"), having deluded themselves into believing the shower of facts raining down upon them requires protection, as if sheltering under an umbrella.
When I tried to show him one such contradiction in the cult's own literature, he deployed his dumbrella, sticking his fingers in his ears and walking away.

A dumbrella is an crappy umbrella that does a shit job of keeping you dry. It easily gets blown in the wrong direction by wind.

The Umbrella Academy 

The Umbrella Academy is a comic book series written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance and drawn by Gabriel Ba. It is published by Dark Horse Comics. The first part of the series is called The Apocalypse Suite and follows the lives of a scientist (who is really an alien) who adopts seven babies who were mysteriously born even though their mothers showed no signs of pregnancy. The series so far consists of six issues: The Day The Eiffel Tower Went Beserk, We Only See Each Other At Weddings And Funerals, Dr. Terminal's Answer; Baby, I'll Be Your Frankenstein; Thanks For The Coffee; Finale, Or Brothers And Sisters, I Am An Atomic Bomb. The second part of the series, while following the same characters as The Apocalypse Suite, is entitled Dallas, with the first issue coming out November 26, 2008. The second issue is due out December 24, 2008.
The Umbrella Academy has brought comic books back to popularity.
