The name is a portmanteau of Disco and Kompa, a sub-genre of Haitian Kompa music which combines elements of Disco music.

Characterised by typical instruments:
basslines, Horns. Keyboard, Synthesizers, Four-on-the-floor" Beats, Electric rhythm guitars, drum-kit bass drum, Hi-hat cymbal, syncopated, and string sections, Vocals, Backing Vocals, Hooks, Ostinatos, and (Vamps),

Played in nightclubs from mainly the French-Creole and Crenglish speaking countries of the Caribbean, such as Haiti, Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe and as well as France, Canada, Western Africa, and Haitian Communities in the US.
