Many people understand cultist to be malicious, but many cult members join believe they’re joining for a better cause. Biases and misconceptions often make it difficult for survivors to heal from past strife because of how much mental strain comes from their past experiences and society.
Jim Jones and the People’s Temple forcing innocent people into suicide is one of the most infamous examples of cultism.
